To satisfy your insurer's requirements an intruder alarm should comply to the European Standard PD6662.

Below is how security systems have been graded...

Grade 1 - Low risk
This grade assumes intruders will have little knowledge of a intruder alarm system and be restricted to a limited range of easily available tools.

Grade 2 - Low to medium risk
This grade assumes intruders will have a limited amount of knowledge of a intruder alarm system and the use of a general range of tools and portable tools.

Grade 3 - Medium to high risk
This grade assumes intruders are expected to be conversant with intruder alarms and have a comprehensive range of tools and portable electronic equipment.
